Hey, my name is Matty and I am the Lead Schools Missional Chaplain based at St James in the City. I have been involved in youth and schools work for a number of years and I am so excited by the Liverpool Next Generation (LNG) project.
School is a very interesting time for young people. It can be a space of excitement and thriving, or it can be a real challenge, often both. I personally didn’t have a chaplain in my school and would have greatly benefitted from some in-school discipleship and teaching. It is such a great opportunity to offer enjoyable content to students who can explore faith and feel supported in their faith also.
What is Schools Missional Chaplaincy?
Our main aim is to reach as many high school students with the good news of Jesus Christ. We do this by regularly attending the schools (St Margaret’s, St Hilda’s and Archbishop Blanch) using different activities to engage the students in interesting ways.
Some activities include: Encounter (lunch time Christian Union), assemblies, RE lessons, prayer space, creating videos, music worship groups, sports, gaming, social media and many more. All include time for us to get to know the students and introduce bible content.
All this work is part of the Liverpool Next Generation (LNG) project which looks to reach the missing generation from the church (11-29 year olds), supported by the Church of England. Its so exciting to see a project reach out to try to support this age group!
