A welcoming church community

Hi, my name is Lois Pritchard and I am one of the Assistant Anglican Chaplains for the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University, based at St James in the City.

In September 2017, I arrived in Liverpool to study Mathematics at John Moores University for the next three years. I was excited about starting my new course, but I was also really apprehensive because I would be living away from home for the first time.

When I came to Liverpool, I didn’t know anybody else, but it turns out that everyone else was in the same boat. I checked out the societies that were run by the University and many of them had welcome events for us. I would really recommend finding societies that you’re interested in as it’s a great way to meet new people whilst doing something that you enjoy.

I’d heard that being part of a church community in Liverpool would really help me to settle in to a new city, but the thought of checking them out on my own was quite daunting! Luckily, the Christian Union ran a “Church Search” for us so that we could check out a few local churches with a group of other students.

All of the churches were really welcoming to us, and were really keen to invite us to events and get us involved within church life. I felt like I found a second home within my church community in Liverpool. I would encourage you to check out some of the local churches as it really enhanced my student experience!

Prayer 101

Prayer is one of those things that most people would say they are no good at. I think we all tend to assume that people who go to church have all been let into some kind of secret about how to pray, and that we must have been absent that week. So what is prayer, and...
